About the Author
The late John Osteen served as a pastor, evangelist, author, and teacher for 60 years. He founded the Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas in 1959, and hosted the weekly "John Osteen" television program for 16 years, reaching millions in the U.S. and extending to 100 countries. He also traveled extensively throughout the world, taking the message of God's love, healing, and power to people of all nations.

Biblical and Anecdotal Riches for Expanding Faith

Many Christians have prayed for more faith without appreciating that gaining more trials is one way that God helps us to realize we can trust Him to carry us through anything. Before such prayers, I suggest that those who wish for more faith to read and study this book. You will certainly pray more appropriate prayers concerning faith building if you do.
I enjoy Pastor Joel Osteen's messages, and I have heard him speak of Pastor John Osteen's teachings . . . but I've never listened to a recorded message by his father. My curiosity led me to read this book to understand more about the differences in their teaching styles. I am glad I did. My understanding of faith building increased, and I was pointed to many excellent Bible verses for further study, reflection, and prayer.

Great guidebook to leading a life of faith!

This was so enjoyable to read on 3 grounds:
1. John Osteen was so passionate about all people living a life of faith and this passion is so evident in his writing.
2. The book is drenched in Scripture, both Old and New Testament. He bases the book around Elijah, who James reminds us ("was a human just like us, ...") and how he prayed to have the rain stop for 3.5 years, then have it start again, in 1 Kings. Osteen also cites many examples of some really tough situations from his own life where he exercised faith.
3. It was easy to read, being uncomplicated with short sharp chapters whilst being very challenging.
I found I prayed constantly as I read it, using the many Scriptures provided, as in essence, being drenched in the Word, praying it and meditating on it, are real keys to living a life of faith.
There are some great sound bites in the book that are always good, for example, "You don't see your victory with your natural eyes, but with your spiritual eyes of faith." (p 153) as well as a number of lists which make this work very practical so the reader can start using the material in their own life.
Thoroughly recommend it, scoring it a 4.5.
