This is a SERIES review and the series overall gets a 4.5 star rating. I wont be rating these individually, but the series was FANTASTIC.
Having said that, I did review the first two books originally.

them. Absolutely loved them. These books had so much going for them that I couldn't wait for more.
✔ I got Angst
✔ I got Drama
✔ I got more Angst
✔ I got serious Sexiness
✔ I got even more Angst
✔ I got Pain, Love, Anger and Joy
✔ I got an Alpha that didn't know when to QUIT!

Did I mention that there was some angst here....because there was a tad.
I got it all and this series was awesome!

Jessica Hawkins is a must-read author for me. I recommend her books on a daily basis, at least....and I always hear back good results. Her books are full of angst and alphas. Alphas that go after what they want, don't listen to others and make their own decisions. No matter how much crap they have to go through.

The Night Fever series was just that. A man that has found his kryptonite and wont accept the obvious. Lola was the one. The one that brought him to his knees and made him beg for more, but he wasn't going to accept it. He wasn't going to allow his vulnerability to show. He had no weaknesses and he could do whatever he wanted, because he had the power and the wealth to back him up.

Right?
Yeah....no.

~ Lola's power over him wouldn't go away just because he wished it would. That was becoming obvious.~

I love that we were dragged through the dirt with this one....we got deep and intense when the feelings started to emerge. All of the sudden, walls needed to break down. All the barriers: pity, pride, self preservation; all that stood in Lola and Beau's way to love, that had to break down into the very depths of their souls to truly move on and to love. Lola and Beau fought something that was indisputable. Undeniable. REAL. I really enjoyed seeing this side of the agreement that didn't go according to 'contract'.

~But if this is insanity, I like it here. 'Eff', do I like it.~

This series is the perfect weekend read....you will get swallowed up and wont be able to put the book down. I could NOT pull myself away from these books. It's the type of series that you want to devour.....you want to just let your heart absorb the words. I can't recommend this series enough and want everyone to read it!!

Did I like the ending? Big fat NO. It ended too quickly and I wanted to soak it all in...... So good. Just so good. The emotions that Jessica evokes in me....aaack!! They just move me. I love the way she writes. It's so easy to follow and I can appreciate the depth that she tries to convey. Easily. Magnifique.

The journey that Lola and Beau go on is nothing short of beautiful....

Good Gawd!! This serial had everything I look for in a book. Everything.

Jessica writes in a way that makes you crave more. I wish I had the words to describe her writing style. The words just flow, effortlessly, and seep under your skin. I felt every emotion. One part had a slow burn that gradually increased until the ending where it was a raging inferno and it felt like my heart might beat right out of my chest.

Another tugged at my heartstrings. It was a completely different pace than the previous books. I feel like the characters were going 100 mph for so long that they had to slow down. It was in those slower, honest moments that the truth found its way out from the confines of both Lola and Beau's hearts. They were forced to face the past so they didn't keep tripping on it, in the present.

I thought it was going to end a completely different way. I loved that I didn't know. A lot of times I can put the pieces together and figure things out. Jessica did an awesome job at keeping me at the edge of my seat, right up until the very last page. The journey that Lola and Beau go on separately and together is nothing short of beautiful.

I love when authors aren't afraid to write outside the box. I crave that. Sometimes you need to be kicked out of your comfort zone and brought full circle. THAT is this serial.

Loved so much angst.

To put all these books in one together is too much to handle cause it’s just so HOT! I'm not even sure where to start. You have Beau out on a mission to have a night with the lovely Lola. But the problem is Lola has a boyfriend but there goals in life are just not the same. You have Beau slowly changing where he is starting to open up on emotions but still very dominant. You don’t think that Lola will follow through with the plan she has but the game changes yet again. I was pleasantly surprised where you couldn’t read fast enough to find out what happened next. Loved every second of the book. She does fantastic writing.

Not a good introduction for the average reader

If you have never read any of Jane's novels before picking up this volume, this is a not a good introduction to her works, or life. The author does have some interesting background regarding her influences, but she colors her depictions of the novels with her own personal opinions and critical views, instead of letting the novels' summaries stand on their own. If you have some experience with Austen and would like some different critical perspective, then this book is about average.

I would recommend Jane Austen: A Companion by Josephine Ross, or the inestimable Jane Austen: The World of Her Novels by Deirdre LeFaye, for both the Austen novice and devotee. These are wonderful books

The book I am reviewing is called Black Folktales, it is by Julius Lester and illustrated by Tom Feelings. This book falls under the category folktales and fairytales. Before I tell you more about the book let me say that the illustrations were amazing. Anyways, the book consisted of short stories about blacks in the south. There were stories about blacks on plantations and about god and how he created the world. Most of the stories were very good and interesting and most of them I enjoyed reading although there were a few mediocre stories mixed in too. The writers writing style I thought was very good. It definitely kept me entertained through out the whole book. There were some very funny stories in the book. there was one about a black man that was feared through out the land, and was supposed to die a couple of times but he kept escaping death, until St. Peter told god that this black man was supposed to have died thirty years ago. God immediately called the grim reaper who started complaining cause he hadn't gotten more the five minutes of sleep in the last two days. He started telling god that he needed some assistants, or else. Anyways I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Short, but excellent collection

This is a good overview of Black Folklore for the novice of the genre, a teaching tool, or for people who just enjoy good stories.

Julius Lester, one of the few living public specialists of tales of this type, begins with a few African stories to show the root of this field. From there, he goes to stories of pre-and post slavery America.

He includes some time honored classics of Black Folklore. "High John The Conqueror," of a slave who outwits his master, was a favorite of my Dad that I have also seen elsewhere as "Big Sixteen" and "Old John" is a welcome addition to this set. In fact I used to regale my friends with this story when I was 12. Read it and you'll see why. Also, the "Bad man" legend of "Stagolee" spieces things up a bit (a forerunner of the type of tales found in gagster rap, minus the vulgarity) and the slave classic "People Who Could Fly," which was first known to be collected along the Charleston (SC) sea islands in the 1920s.

Unfortuantely, most of these tales are not told anymore except by professional storytellers. Additionally, many books that tended to contain such stories in the early 1900s when such tales were still often told were so laden with dialect (Joel Chandler Harris, Ambrose Gonzales, et. al.) that they are often incomprehenbsible to the modern reader. Many kudos to Mr. Lester for keeping this wonderful art form alive.

PS, Mr. Lester inquired of the source of the last story in the book. I recall reading it in Zora Neale Hurston's "Mules & Men" (1935). Hope this helps.

These tales--told in "street talk"--will be liked by some, not by others; are humorous to some, not to others. Ones most anyone would enjoy are: "Why Apes Look Like People," "Why Men Have to Work," "How the Snake Got His Rattles," and "High John the Conqueror."

I'd recommend this to INFJ's and those seeking to understand them

As an INFJ, I often find myself in "listening mode" and/or "conflict avoidance mode" while interacting with others. The author's awareness of the tension this can elicit in an INFJ (who has strong opinions but may feel unable to express them due to 'upsetting' others) is very insightful. At the same time, however, the author does not seem especially sympathetic towards the inner struggles of an INFJ, and some of his/her remarks about the negative aspects of the INFJ personality are hard to accept.
Having said that, I'd recommend this to INFJ's and those seeking to understand them. There are especially useful comments about our penchant for solitary intellectual pursuits and passions that might seem eccentric or strange to others (which of course is why we keep them secret!)

"Another look at INFJ" is exactly what this is. It goes in more depth and explores different aspects of the INFJ than the other sources I have come across online. It's nice to find literature that digs deeper than the sage/guru stereotype.

I had a personal revelation recently, regarding confrontations and conflicts, that was mirrored perfectly in the article (I'm an INFJ). I found that quite impressive, and don't regret giving this article a chance.

I've already given it several looks

All in all a crisp but surprisingly comprehensive second look at how the INFJ ticks. Geroir gives concrete examples of how the abstract-minded INFJ can be so successful in wading through murky social waters with the ease of a "chameleon", accurately gauging the social temperature of his environment and adapting himself accordingly. It would have been nice if the piece explored in greater depth how some INFJs could be so incredibly cruel and manipulative, an embarrassing personality trait that is touched on but not elaborated here. But overall it gives the Jungian novice a solid overview, especially in regards to the INFJ's inner conflict between authenticity to self and adaptation to the emotional climate.

Typos and errata galore!

This could have been a pretty good book if it weren't for the plethora of typos, missed "ed's" and "ing's"and so many other mistakes! It was very distracting. I actually spent a good deal of time looking for a way to contact the author. I'm sure she would be mortified. I hope so anyway! Seriously needs to get a better editor. I suspect that whoever proofed this didn't actually read it, just hit spell check. I read this on Kindle, maybe that's the problem!

I was aching for her and her family's business. Brandon is a sexy businessman finally ready to do some self assessment. Perhaps, it is time for him to do something besides work. Business or Pleasure has many great facets! I was able to experience many emotions. I was happy, sad, pissed and jovial all in one sitting. Business or Pleasure is a splendid read you won't be able to put down once you start.

Frankie and Johnny

This is one amazing play! A two-man play, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune exceeds all expectations. The play is about a woman, Frankie, and a man, Johnny. They work together in a restaurant. She's a waitress, he's a cook. They meet but don't connect. The beginning of the play finds them in Frankie's apartment after making love on the night of their first date. Throughout the two-act play, the star-crossed lovers are faced with trying to salvage something that ought to last, and not self-destruct.

Others have outlined the plot, so I'll just skip to my impressions. So, maybe it's because I belong to a younger generation of feminists who try to be very conscientious about things like consent, but when I saw this performed I just found it creepy. To give credit to the actor playing Johnny, he somehow managed to make his character seem (mostly) sweet rather than creepy, but I was definitely making faces at the lines he had to speak.

This whole play's comedy is centered around Frankie resisting Johnny's advances, up to and including her yelling at him to get out of her apartment...but he doesn't. He refuses to leave her alone until she falls into his arms again, and supposedly this is all okay because the man *knows* that she loves him, so he just needs to pressure her until she realizes it and stops resisting him.

Sorry, but when you hear people talk about things like "rape culture"....this is kind of a good example. We are presented with a scenario where a woman is telling a man "no" in about 50 different ways, but HE somehow knows what she wants better than SHE does, so he ignores her and keeps pressing in on her space until she gives in...and it's framed as sweet and funny and romantic, and it's all okay because Johnny was right and knew better. Telling people that it's romantic for a guy to pressure a woman he supposedly loves and refuse to leave her alone, telling people that men know what women want better than the women themselves, making it funny for a woman to protest romantic advances (because we all know that she "really wants it" *wink wink*)...
...this is the line of thinking that makes guys in real life think that women don't really mean it when they say "no" and they should keep going until her resistance weakens, the line of thinking that gives rapists a way out because more people will think "sure, she calls it rape, but she probably wanted it and was just playing coy". (seriously, say she really was unwilling...do you think anyone would believe her if Johnny had forced her into sex a second time? Since she had invited him into her apartment and willingly had sex the first time, it's almost guaranteed no one would believe it was rape if Johnny later forced himself on her during that same visit).

If we're going to make any progress with sexual assault, we have to learn to respect the "No". I can't get behind something that holds up invalidating a woman's objecting voice as a romantic ideal. Again, maybe it's because I'm from a younger crowd, but I was shocked at how my fellow audience members were gushing about how romantic it was after the show.

One of the great American plays

This is not a book in the sense of a novel, it is a play. That is why there is so much "talking", or dialogue. I have studied this play intensively and it is so rich of true human emotion. The characters aren't glamorous. Their opposite personalities and views of love and romance turn "the last of the red-hot lovers" into the most unlikely couple. Still, you want the best for both of them. I love this play and consider it one of McNally's best.
