Great for naturalists, woodsmen, traditional archers, outdoorsmen, hunters and those who enjoy biographical writings.

I chose the 5-star rating purely on the content. Thompson is a good old-stchool writer with compelling stories and descriptive language. We may disagree with some of his targets today as they are either extinct or endangered, but it is typical of the era.
This is good reading, not only for traditional archers and bowyers but anyone intrigued by the outdoors. The period is shortly after the American Civil War, mainly in the Southeast U.S..

New to archery?

This is an interesting bit of reading, albeit old school. As a new archer, I have found this book to be a helpful and entertaining. I especially like the section on birds. Never knew these observations and character of birds before.

Very informative with a tremendous amount of very good information, and how things were back during the Victorian time period for the sport of archery. But back then it seemed to be a way of life!
